In order to gain this status Gavin had to undertake an intensive training course at the Volkswagen Head Quarters in Milton Keynes. The course consisted of approximately 500 hours worth of training, taking multiple tests as well as undergoing thorough customer service scrutiny to ensure that Gavin could be customer facing. This training was impressive and limited to only the top performing technicians in a handful of dealerships at the time. It has since been rolled out to all dealerships but the training is less intensive and more straightforward.
Gavin then became a VW certified Licensed Technician in 2003. This is Volkswagen’s highest and most focused training for the luxury vehicles in the VW fleet; the Phaeton & Touareg. Only a handful of Technicians have ever been awarded this status. He then went on to achieve Volkswagen Technician of the Year in 2004.
